Galloping to Guineas glory

The Gipping Valley and Thurston Schools Sport Partnership proved a winner at the weekend.

Partnership mascot Ali the Lion romped to victory in the annual Mascot Guineas race at Newmarket Town FC's football ground between cuddly representatives of the region's sporting clubs and groups.

But Ali needed a stroke of luck in Sunday's race. Cambridge United FC's Marvin the Moose was leading but fell on the final corner and was overtaken by the Stowmarket area schools' favourite. Newmarket Town FC's Jockey Bear was third.
