As we welcome in the New Year we say goodbye 2011 and hello 2012. Let's not forget all the changes that 2011 has brought Stowmarket.

Stowmarket has seen business developments and new commodities popping up all over the shop (pun intended) over the course of 2011,  and even with the current financial situation the wind carries the confounded murmurs of 'what recession?'There seems to be no stopping the spirit of the merchant in and around Stowmarket.

The new Morrison's supermarket opened its doors on Monday 10th October 2011

A mid summer heat wave caused pandemonium for national rail's train network affecting Stowmarket commuters.

Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre's fitness facilities have been undergoing improvements.

Costa Coffee opened a branch in Stowmarket much to the delight of the locals... Seriously, every time I walk past the queues out the door!

May saw the local Elections and referendum come to Stowmarket, did you vote?

An Industrial Strike caused schools to close affecting parents in Stowmarket and all over the U.K.

 

The John peel centre for creative arts was awarded half a million by the big lottery fund.

A successful 'Stowfest' played host to a wide array of local talent

This is just a small selection of Stowmarkets thriving community projects, I endevour to bring you more of the most interesting happenings throughout the year.

So what's coming up in 2012?

A new Weatherspoons will be offering value drinks and meals when it opens on the 17th January. This new arrival is sure to fire up some competition with other drinking establishments in the area.

The Museum of East Anglian life's 'Abbott's hall' will be opening its doors very soon.  So if you're into your history then watch this space!

A £5 million youth facility is planned to open in September 2012.
