New Pub Coming to Town - Will it Rival Our Local Pubs?
By Forever_Free | Wednesday, March 09, 2011, 15:49
The popular pub chain 'Wetherspoons' is set to open up in Stowmarket later this year. Work is evidently underway as construction takes place in the grounds right opposite the Dukes Head, stretching right down to the Gipping Way road and taking over a large public carpark (Currently closed off). Rumoured to arrive in October, are you looking forward to the addition?

I went out in to the community and asked people what they thought.
'I welcome the idea. I will be going because its cheaper.' - Tim, Stowmarket
'There hasnt been anything new in years apart from Peacocks, definately time for change and bring Stowmarket out of the dark ages and into the present.' - Matt, Stowmarket
'Money talks at the moment, and with the recession still in full swing people have to go where they can have fun for less money.' - Izzy, Combs Ford
Money seems to be the overriding factor in the welcoming vibe I got from people, and on asking whether the quality of food will match the potentially higher prices of our local pubs, this is an example of the response I got:
'I don't think the younger generations will be fussed, and we all love a cheap and easy meal don't we? Maybe the older generation will favour quality over price but generally I think it will be a big hit.' - Izzy, Combs Ford
Which is your favourite pub in Stowmarket? While the idea of cheap grub is a tempting one, is it not a little sad that our local pubs may be affected by the ever so popular pub? Situated pretty much in the centre of town, it is very close to the likes of The Oak (always do lovely food), The Dukes Head (who also have cheap prices e.g. £2.99 meals at the moment), not to mention The Gladstone Arms and many more pubs in Stowmarket situated in close proximity.

Wetherspoons is a cheaper alternative to some places, it will be really interesting to see how our local pubs will be affected. Saying that Dukes Head already do cheap meals at Wetherspoon prices.
