The Abbots Hall Museum in Stowmarket will be opening its doors in 2012 after being closed because of a restoration project. The museum provides a look into East Anglia's social history.

The renovation was funded by a 1.7 million pound heritage lottery grant. The funds have been invested in a new entrance hall, a new centrepiece and on the restoration of Crowe St Cottages which is where the workers would have lived. The cottages will give visitors a chance to see what it might have been like to live as a worker on the estate.

When the Museum opens again guests will be treated to a nine room exhibition complex that captures the epitome of East Anglian history. The new centrepiece will feature exhibitions about many of East Anglia's leading historic figures including Organic farming pioneer Lady Eve Balfour, writer and folklorist George Ewart Evans and many more. According to the Museum of East Anglian life website there is quite a buzz about the opening of Abbotts Hall within the Stowmarket community, with many people eagerly waiting to see the new installations.

"We're looking at what East Anglia means to the people that live there, with powerful and meaningful displays which capture the heart within the history."
