News broadcasters and weathermen around the country have been fixated on the current cold spell and consequential snow that has fallen on our lands. Much of the U.K. has been covered, including Stowmarket and the surrounding areas. The Met Office's severe weather warnings are still in place.
The snow fall has been recorded as deep as 16cm in some areas of the U.K. This has lead the Met Office to issue warnings that Ice may follow as overnight temperatures fall below freezing, causing further rail, road and air traffic disruptions.
Drivers using the M25 and M40 have experienced problems, some people became stranded and had to leave their cars whilst others were forced to spend the night in their vehicle. The nations Gritters are out in force in response to the heavy snow, salting as many roads as possible. For updates on which roads have been gritted you can check the 'Gritter Twitter' which can be found on twitter.com
Many road users in Stowmarket have decided not to drive in the snowy conditions and the surrounding roads have been relatively quiet, some of the smaller and more rural roads have become almost unusable for many motorists.
Children are basking in the winter wonderland, building snowmen and getting into as many snowballs fights as possible. No doubt the children will be hoping the snow continues as it could lead to school closures.
Be sure to keep warm in this weather and take care when driving or travelling in these conditions.
For more information on school closures and other effects of the current weather situation please check back to the Stowmarket People website as updates will be made periodically.
