Prevention Against Heating Oil Theft This Winter

Suffolk Police are advising the community to be vigilant over the next few months, as heating oil may become a target for thieves.
According to advice from the Suffolk Constabulary, rising fuel prices and the high cost of heating fuel will lead to an increased risk from thieves, and so they suggest the following measures for businesses and home owners:
- Check oil levels regularly
- Fit a lock on to all fuel tanks (don't give it away to them!)
- Try to have tanks hidden and not on display
- Fencing and lights, even *****ly bushes, are good preventative measures.
I would also say that it is a good idea to talk to your neighbours, keep a look out for each other and report any suspicious activity.
For more information on this you can either
phone the central switchboard on 01473 613500 and ask to speak to your
local Crime Reduction Officer.
