Nearly 40 garages in the small village of Debenham, near Stowmarket were vandalised in what police are calling 'attempted garage break-ins'.
The incident occurred between 9pm on Tuesday 3rd January and 9am the following day on Sackvylle Street, Debenham. According to police garage locks had been forced in. The police are now calling out for anyone who may have witnessed the event to come forward. No one has reported anything stolen.
The following statement from Sgt Nick Emerick, a member of Mid Suffolk Central Safer Neighbourhood team was quoted from the Suffolk Constabulary website.
"As a result of this incident, we are increasing high visibility patrols in the area. We will also be conducting house to house enquiries and acting on any information received. In the mean time and to help deter offenders, householders are urged to ensure all possible security measures are in place."
Poorly secured garages are prime targets for thieves. People leave expensive tools and items in their garages and sometimes leave them unlocked. Most modern garages have suitable locks to deter potential thieves but there are measures that can be taken to help reduce the risk of garage theft.

ReportGood they now have more police patrols in the area. Hope this means they catch these people but shame they didn't think of it sooner.
